OH MY GOD!
what if
roll with me on this
what if at the end of Iron Man 3, after the credits
Tony’s just hanging in his living room, hanging out, maybe he’s at Stark Tower, he’s quipping as usual.
And a little alarm goes off, and Jarvis is like ‘Sir, there appears to be a security breach’
And Tony goes off on security snafu or something and the door slides open
and it just
‘Hello, Mr. Stark.’
This is what I’ve been hoping for since right after I saw The Avengers for the first time, tbh. I am trying not to hope too hard, but let’s be real, I’m going to be really sad if they don’t do this.
I think something along these lines makes the most sense of any of the possible ways they could reveal that Coulson didn’t die. I mean, Coulson is going to be on the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show, which is set post-Avengers (source) so we know he is alive somehow. And since his death was such an important part of The Avengers (it was the catalyst for the last third of the film), wouldn’t it make the most sense to bring him back in one of the films, rather than saving that reveal for a TV show that doesn’t even have a 100% guaranteed pick up yet?
Since Coulson was introduced in Iron Man, revealing he’s alive in an IM movie makes the most sense. And saving it for a post-credits scene is the best way to do it. This is Tony’s movie, so the Coulson Lives reveal really doesn’t have a place in the plot, but the post-credits scenes are generally used to tease the audience about the next piece of MCU canon to be released. Since (provided the show gets picked up, and I’m sure it will) S.H.I.E.L.D. will start airing before Thor 2 comes out, it’s up next. If they tease his survival at the end of IM3, it’s an automatic hook for people to tune into the TV show.
The level to which I want this to happen cannot now be textually rendered.
